“The Crown Chakra is where our body makes the connection to the Universal Life Source. Many call this source God, Higher Power, the Divine, and the like. Through this chakra we experience unity with our higher selves and our divine purpose in life. It allows us to understand that there is a higher purpose in all things and that everything connects on deeper and spiritual levels.” ~ text from Sky Crystals.
At Chrysalis, we decided the best way to describe this Universal Life Source is to call it what it’s been called for millennia: The Akashic Field. Akasha is a Sanskrit word that means simply empty space or the æther. The Akashic Field, also known as the Akashic Record, is a robust field of quasi-integrated information. I use the word quasi to acknowledge that currently there is no accepted scientific theory as to how this information is integrated or even accessed.
That will soon change.
But before it does, science first must come to grips with not only the existential reality of consciousness but with the fact that consciousness itself is non-local. By non-local we reject consciousness as an emergent property of the human brain and implicate theologian Paul Tillich’s description of consciousness as, “The Ground of All Being.”

“Mystics and sages have long maintained that there exists an interconnecting cosmic field at the roots of reality that conserves and conveys information, a field known as the Akashic record. Recent discoveries in vacuum physics show that this Akashic Field is real and has its equivalent in science’s zero-point field that underlies space itself. This field consists of a subtle sea of fluctuating energies from which all things arise: atoms and galaxies, stars and planets, living beings, and even consciousness. This zero-point Akashic Field is the constant and enduring memory of the universe. It holds the record of all that has happened on Earth and in the cosmos and relates it to all that is yet to happen.”
This explanation comes from Dr. Ervin Lazlo, a cosmologist and philosopher of science. His seminal book on the subject is titled, Science and the Akashic Field: An Integral Theory of Everything, and is available here from Amazon. I highly recommend it.
Chrysalis Tarot was created to assist you in learning how to communicate with the Akashic Field and its diverse constellations of information known as archetypes. We even added 16 additional archetypes known as The Troupe to further animate the process and make our deck even more consonant with modern scientific advancements.
Remember, with Chrysalis we never seek to “decode” a random grouping of cards. That’s a parlor-game approach to tarot that is nonsensical and needs to disappear altogether! It represents an archaic, material approach rather than a uniquely spiritual one.
At Chrysalis, we use random groupings of cards to facilitate conversations with our Higher Self, symbolized by the Divine Child (left). It is he (or her) – Holly made the child androgynous – who is your true spiritual director and guide. Your Higher Self – a.k.a. your Divine Nature – accesses and assimilates information from the Akashic Field via your Crown Chakra. Accordingly, we always recommend chakra exercises and cleansing.
We acknowledge and accept our co-creative responsibilities once we grasp the truth that we are divine. And in doing so we create a far more direct and less needled path to self-awareness and individual destiny.
The quote from Deepak Chopra on the cover reads:
“The most brilliant, comprehensive and intellectually satisfying integral theory of everything that I have ever read … transcends the vision of Darwin, Newton, Einstein, the quantum pioneers, and many other scientific giants of history”
