“Useful Idiots”

A slight departure now from our customary Chrysalis Tarot-focused writings, but one with a single yet important purpose; namely to shed some light on the agitating racket and manufactured disharmony as the inauguration of Donald Trump approaches.

As I’ve written before, the world is experiencing the birth throes of a new paradigm. This truism has been proclaimed far and wide for many years; it has been anticipated by those with “eyes to see and ears to hear.” A search for “paradigm shift” on Google returns over 8-million hits. The emergent paradigm – the “tip of the iceberg” – drives the poorly understood and (for now) submerged events advancing global change. If you don’t have at least a rudimentary appreciation of this New Paradigm, making sense of current events can be rather daunting. Old school analytics don’t help. It’s a new day.

It remains to be seen if this new paradigm will be born healthy. If so, her birth will herald a new Golden Age. If not, the pain we will inflict upon ourselves depends upon how hard we as a species – and particularly as civilized nations – push back against the inevitable winds of change. We’ll make it to the new Golden Age, but there are two routes. Clearly, even those with stunted spiritual antennae accept that humanity’s present course – the status quo – is unsustainable. And this mild assertion has nothing whatsoever to do with the ubiquitous hoax known as “climate change.”

Since the politics of the day is incendiary, I shall turn to the politics of the past to make our needed points. We’re on the cutting edge of change in the political arena, therefore history still provides important lessons. This is where the somewhat sinister looking character pictured above enters the picture. He is one Saul Alinsky, who died back in 1972, age 63. As spiritual symmetries and synchronicities would have it, Alinsky’s story includes intriguing parallels to today’s rock hewn political landscape. Synchronicity (meaningful coincidence) should always inform us, as well as entertain us. Yet it’s far more than just meaningful coincidence. It’s backward causation through time – quantum entangled time, if you will.

Alinsky was born in Chicago in 1909 to Jewish immigrants from Russia. Wikipedia calls him an “American community organizer and writer.” He wrote a book in 1971 titled, Rules for Radicals, which is still considered the bible for community organizing. William Buckley once referred to him as an “organizational genius.” Alinsky is not the villain here, just the foil.

Interestingly, Hillary Clinton wrote her senior thesis at Wellesley on Alinsky, but let’s not entwine ourselves in her frumpy kudzu. Instead, we’ll just recount a few of Alinsky’s ideas he termed “power tactics,” as outlined in his Rules for Radicals, and draw the obvious conclusions.

I’ll pick and choose 5 from his list of 13 (the emphasis is mine):

  • Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage.
  • A good tactic is one that your people enjoy. If your people are not having a ball doing it, there is something very wrong with the tactic.
  • Keep the pressure on, with different tactics and actions, and utilize all events of the period for your purpose.
  • The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. It is this unceasing pressure that results in the reactions from the opposition that are essential for the success of the campaign.
  • Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.

Alternatively, perhaps it’s simply better to accept legitimate change, adapt and then move on. America, by the way, also has a Bible, along with a few rules for being a “good American.” It’s known as the Constitution. Dissent and civil disobedience are Constitutionally guaranteed civil rights that we all cherish. Wanton disrespect and lawlessness, flames fanned by the Clinton Crowd, not so much.

16-kaliWe live in the Age of Kali, whose ongoing cosmic mission is change through creative destruction. “May you live in interesting times,” the sage said. Chrysalis Tarot fans are intimately familiar with Kali, even if they sometimes don’t fully understand her intent or immediately recognize her spiritual footprint.

For those who are unfamiliar with her, Kali is an archetype. Chrysalis Tarot is first and foremost about “archetypal psychology” and the Collective Unconscious. We designed Chrysalis to increase individual self-awareness and, therefore, consciousness, as symbolized by Kali’s necklace of skulls.

The “tower” in the image symbolizes the human ego, which is in constant tension with the Higher Self. They are inversely proportional; as ego decreases Higher Self – consciousness – increases. This transformative experience is best described as spiritual growth or enlightenment, which are essential to seeing things clearly – to being able to think and reason clearly and critically.

Since the word bible came up a couple of times in this post, it calls to mind the theological doctrine of eschatology. In metaphysics, as opposed to religious dogma, this doctrine simply refers to the study of, and the reasons for, the profound changes that precede a cosmic evolution of consciousness (paradigm shift). You cannot separate eschatology from a paradigm shift or the evolution of consciousness. Eschatology is a macrocosmic absolute that informs microcosmic understanding.

Two thousand years ago there was another birth – another paradigm shift – that gave name to what we call the “Common Era (CE).” Back then, before the present era became common, the eschatology of John the Baptist, a Jewish prophet, was apocalyptic in nature. The eschatology of Jesus, also a Jewish prophet, was about the coming of a “New Kingdom” (a new paradigm) – a new Golden Age. Paradigm shifts always reconcile and reset the tension of opposites: “A tension of opposites is like a pull on a rubber band. And most of us live somewhere in the middle.” ~ Morrie Schwartz.

It is not my intention to pay lip service to some facile Christian Sunday School lesson by making these references to John and his good cousin Jesus. I’m a spiritual naturalist, after all, who views organized religion as instructive metaphor and myth, as opposed to absolute truth. I wish simply to remind the reader that, at its core, the situation today in America, and in the world, is spiritual in nature and far more complex than threadbare left vs. right political polemics or sectarian religious zeal might have one believe.

This brings us to the title of this blog: what on Earth is a “Useful Idiot?” Well, these hive-minded marionettes, these useful idiots, abound and abide in their Egregore (group mind) and to Alinsky’s delight are indeed “having a ball.”

“In political parlance, a useful idiot is a term for people perceived as propagandists for a cause whose goals they are not fully aware of, and who are used cynically by the leaders of the cause.” ~ Wikipedia

In other words, sheeple.

  1. Very interesting comments about the election and the state of transformation the world is in. Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds and what more you have to say.

    Sue, the Useful Idiot!

  2. I think it’s important to note that useful idiots occur on both sides of the aisle. Any adherence to a party, as more important than the well-being of the citizens, or believing either party is innocent/not self-serving is idiocy. Trusting any politicians is risky. Better not to forsake your own spiritual evolution and development by following a predefined platform of any kind…

  3. VERY good read! Thank you. If only more people would realize what’s happening around them. I can only stand back in awe at the obvious chaos that’s being created. May we all come out of this unscathed💖
